"Part two of the story" by annoymous

The stones had been formed into a wall for at least a couple hundred years now, removed from the field and walling it; a field now returned to forest but with a few cellars holes, a small cemetery and the occasionally visible article of daily life from when the forest was field.

The wall carries moss in its shadows and is bald to the sun. The leaves from previous autumns mortar it. It no longer sits upon the ground but appears to be protruding from it, and is sure return to it completely.

The stones are colder to touch than look at, but are warmer than the day.

I almost wouldn’t have recognized the area if it hadn’t been for that majestic oak tree in the northwestern corner. We spent so much of our youth in this field and climbing that tree. Has it really been 45 years since the day it happened?
